Social Media: To verify or not to verify?

May 26, 2023

The famous blue tick has been a coveted symbol on social media platforms since its evolution. Previously only available to public figures such as politicians, actors, musicians, athletes and journalists, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced that the company is rolling out Meta Verified on Instagram and Facebook to all. The subscription service now allows users to add the blue verified badge to their Instagram and Facebook accounts for a monthly fee.

Although access to this golden tick(et) is now readily available, the question is: to verify or not verify? For both business and personal use, the decision comes down to whether this is an investment you believe will help encourage growth and further your page’s success.

Paying for verification - to verify or not to verify?

The monthly subscription is AUD 19.99 on the web, AUD 24.99 on iOS and Android. In addition to the monthly fee, you will have to be at least 18 years old. You need to complete the verification process and provide a government-issued photo ID to confirm your identity before being approved for a Meta Verified subscription. Two-factor authentication is also required. Meta Verified subscribers won’t be able to change their profile name, photo, username or date of birth unless they’re willing to complete the verification process again. Since it’s a combined subscription, users will be getting a blue badge on both Facebook and Instagram.

There is no denying verification on Instagram increases your brand’s credibility and signifies your page is both important and relevant. Maybe it’s time to make this investment for your business? One thing is for sure: Meta Verified will change the way we use and interact with these social platforms. Will you buy in?
